Duration: 60 minutes
Engage (10 minutes):
- Begin
the lesson by engaging students' interest in the topic. Show a picture or
flashcard of a word with a silent 'w', such as "wrist" or
"wren".
- Ask
students if they notice anything unusual about the word. Guide them to
recognize the silent 'w' and discuss its role in pronunciation.
- Encourage
students to share any words they know that contain a silent 'w' and
discuss their meanings.
Explore (15 minutes):
- Provide
students with a variety of words containing silent 'w' on flashcards or
word cards. These words could include "wrist",
"wreck", "write", "wrestle", etc.
- In
