Regular and Irregular verbs

 Regular and irregular verbs.

A verb is a  doing or action word.

Most verbs form their past tense by adding "d" or "ed". These verbs are called REGULAR VERBS.

Eg. Wash    Washed

       Bake     Baked

If a verb ends with "y" and there is a consonant before it, change the y to "i" and add "ed"

eg. Cry    Cried

      deny   denied

      reply   replied

      apply   applied

If a very ends with "y" and there is a vowel before the "y", then just add "ed"

eg.  obey      obeyed

        stay       stayed

        enjoy     enjoyed

        play        played

Some verbs do not follow this rule. They are called IRREGULAR VERBS. They form their past tense form differently.

Eg.  Sing    Sang

        Buy    Bought
