OBJECTIVES:
1. For students to readily
identify letter "u" and associate same with the sound.
2. Tell the location (i.e. beginning,
middle, end) of the /u/ sound in a number of one syllable or two syllable words
3. Learn and practise mouth
formations for different sounds of the alphabet (u)
4. Learn and use basic sight
words
5. Blend phonemes to form new
words

Activity:
Mystery Bag Game

Place familiar items or pictures of objects with
the short “u” sound (e.g., cup, mug, bus, sun) in a bag.
·
Let students pull an item and guess the sound it
begins with.
·
Teacher introduces the short “u” sound with a song (Video clip) or chant.

Give each student a small mirror.

Model how the mouth forms the short “u” sound
