Letters "C" and "K"

 TOPIC: Letters "C" and "K", sound /CK/


OBJECTIVES:

1. For students to readily identify letters "c" and 'k' and associate same with the sound.

2. Tell the location (i.e. beginning, middle, end) of the "ck" sound in a number of one syllable or two syllable words

3. Learn and practise mouth formations for different sounds of the alphabet (ck)

4. Learn and use basic sight words

5. Blend phonemes to form new words


CONTENT :












Letters "C" and "K" are letters of the alphabet. They are both consonants. The two letters make the same sound. When they go together in a word, the sound is made just once. Eg, l/u/ck.


ENGAGE:

Teacher will review letter sounds dealt with so far . /s/, /a/, /t/, /i/, /p/, /n/

Students will watch the video clip below, and participate in a discussion as the video is paused at intervals.

 They will click their fingers above their heads saying the /ck/, /ck/, /ck/ sound. (While paying attention to mouth formation).


EXPLORE:

Teacher will blend the words c/a/t, k/i/p, p/i/ck, and s/a/ck. Have the students saying the sound of each letter, then blending the sounds to read the words. 

Students will notice that there is no slash between the /ck/ in the words p/i/ck/ and s/a/ck/ as this is just one single sound. (Not s-a-c-k)

Students will blend the sounds in a similar way to read the words below.


WORD BANK: cat, cap, kit, kip, kin, sack, sick, pack, pick, tick, tack, tank, sank, stack, snack, stick.


Tick the words they are able to identify from the charts below. (Chart will be projected on c/b).








EXPLAIN:

1. Supply words with initial "c" and "k" words

2, Supply words with final /ck/ sound.

3. Clap when they hear the "CK" sound

Identify the sight words below, then use three to make sentences.
