TOPIC: Letter "P p"
OBJECTIVES:
1. For students to readily identify letter "P" and associate it with its sound.
2. Tell the location (i.e. beginning, middle, end) of the "P" sound in a number of one syllable words
3. Learn and practise mouth formations for different sounds of the alphabet (P)
4. Learn and use basic sight words
5. Blend phonemes to form new words
CONTENT :
The letter 'P p" is a letter of the alphabet. It is a consonant.
ENGAGE:
Revise letter sounds done so far, /s/, /a/, /t/, /i/
students will be asked to look at the pictures below and name them. As they are called, teacher will write down the one that begin with letter "p" on the chalkboard.
Students will then be asked to called the ones on the boards again..
They will make the dominant sound heard. /p/.
Tell which letter makes that sound.
Write the letter in the air and in their books.
Pay attention to mouth formation when sounding letter "p".
EXPLORE:
Apply the skill of segmenting and blending to pronounce some of the words not known above.
Listen to the video clip below to learn more about letter "p".
Tell where they identify the sound as new words are called. Eg.
sap, top, pop, tap, plane, plus, paper.
Observe how teacher models how to use segmenting and blending strategies to spell words, to break words into phonemes and follow the following steps to the same with the given words.
eg.
1.Say the word ("sip")
2.Segment the phonemes ( s/i/p)
3. Give the letters that match each phoneme ( s-i-p)
4. Repeat the word (sip)

ELABORATE:
Change the consonants in some of the CVC words to create rhymes.
Eg. p/o/p, t/o/p, b/o/p, c/o/p, h/o/p, m/o/p
Read simple sentences with letter "p" words.
eg.
1. The pen is on the paper.
2. I like to eat red plums.
3. Same rides his purple bike.
4. The day was hot so we went in the big pool.
