 TOPIC: Letter Sound "Hh"


OBJECTIVES:

1. Identify sight words beginning with letter "h".

2. Associate the letter "h' with the sound.

3. Form the letter 'Hh" legibly in their books (upper, lower case)

4. Readily identify CVC words with initial sound /h/

5. Substitute vowels to form new words with initial sound /h/


CONTENT :

The letter "Hh" is the eight letter of the alphabet. It is a consonant.



These are some
sight words that begin with the letter "h": had, has, her, him, his, how, home, horse, hill, head, hand

ENGAGE:

Review letter sounds done so far. /s/, /a/, /t/, /i/, /p/, /i/,/n/,/c/, /k/, /e/

Students will review some of the sight words looked at in previous lessons. Eg. had, has, her, his, how. They will pronounce the words while stressing the initial sound /h/.

Teacher will ask students what they notice about the initial sound in all words.

They will tell which letter makes the sound.

Make the sound again, while paying attention to mouth formation.

Teacher will introduce students to other sight words beginning with letter "h".

Eg. home, horse, hill, head, hand


EXPLORE:

Students will listen to the video clip below to learn more about letter "h" and how to form the letter.

Identify new words from video clip, and determine where in the words the /h/ sound is located.

Blend phonemes and read the words below.


WORD BANK: hat, hit, hip, hen, hiss, hint, hectic

Examine the chart below and tick the words they are able to call. Chart will be mounted.


EXPLAIN:

Form both upper and lower case 'Hh' in their books correctly.

Make the sound of /h/.

Blend sounds to pronounce new words.

Identify at least 5 sight words with letter "h"


ELABORATE:

Substitute a different vowel for the one beside the letter "h" and call out the new sound.

eg  h/a, h/e/, h/i/ , h/o/, h/u

Play a game where they use a consonant from a letter bank to form a CVC (consonant vowel consonant) word.

LETTER BANK: n ,  b , p ,  t, n, s, w, m 

Say the new words formed together.
