TOPIC: Letter "Aa"
OBJECTIVES:
1. Learn and practise mouth formation for different sounds of the alphabet
2. Identify letter "a" and associate with sound (Short sound a)
3. Identify words with letter sound "a".
CONTENT:
The letter "Aa" is a special letter. It is a vowel. It is the first of five vowels. It has two sounds. Long "a" and short "a".
ENGAGE:
Listen to the video clip below and then name the letter of the alphabet in question.
Examine the chart below and identify the "a"s by circling them.
EXPLORE:
Students will make the sound of letter "a", then write it in the air, then on paper. Pay attention to mouth formation.
Examine the worksheet below, make the sound in their minds, then take turn in identifying pictures which contain the beginning sound "a"
Supply other words with the "a" sound.
EXPLAIN:
Identify the letter "a" among a group of letters.
Make the sound of letter "a" collaboratively.
Decide on the odd words out from a group of words given by teacher.

ELABORATE:
Students will identify sight words beginning with letter "a". Use at least 3 to make sentences orally and 3 written.
Examine the word "sat". They will listen as teacher pronounces the word. They will follow teacher as she separates individual phonemes in the word.
eg. s/a/t
Students will give the letters that make each sound.
Put them together to pronounce the word.
Teacher will have students substituting the consonants to form new words, maintaining the ryhme "at"
eg. P/a/t , r/a/t c/a/t, b/a/t, f/a/t, h/a/t , m/a/t, s/a/t
EVALUATE:
1. Identify where in the words the letter sound "A" is heard by standing if middle, sitting if beginning.
eg.
(a) around
(b) comma
(c) apple
(d) Jessica
